WEEKLY
INSTRUCTION IN PREPARATION FOR THE
NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS:
Third Sunday of Lent
The
liturgies of Lent are focused on
our repentance and God’s mercy.
Sometimes we pray the Confiteor
together; “I confess to almighty
God…” Other times the priest
gives short invocations such as
“Lord we have sinned against
you” to which we respond
“Lord, have mercy.” Before we
settle in to hear the Word, it is
important that we acknowledge our
sins. This is yet another way the
liturgy reflects how we should
live. We need to ask for and
receive God’s mercy in order to
prepare the soil to bear the fruit
of justice, peace and love.

PASSOVER SEDER MEAL & TAIZE PRAYER
FOR THE AREA FAITH COMMUNITY AT
ST. MARY’S on Wednesday March 24
with the Passover Seder Meal at
5:30 p.m. and the Taize Prayer
Service by the St. Mary’s Choir
at 7:30 p.m.
WHAT
IS A PASSOVER SEDER MEAL???
This is the meal Jesus used for
the Last Supper on which the Mass
is based. This is a ritual meal
that the Jews still eat yearly to
reenact and relive the deliverance
of the Israelites from the
Egyptians by God as commanded to
Moses. It goes back to the meal in
Egypt during the 10th
plague, the death of the first
born, which freed the Hebrew
Slaves. The meal was of an
unblemished male lamb whose blood
was put on the doorposts of the
houses so death would “pass
over” the house, it also
included unleavened bread and wine
along with other symbolic foods
reminding the participants of the
bitterness of the slavery in Egypt
from which they were delivered.
Jesus used this meal to deliver us
from slavery to Satan, sin and
death as the sinless male Lamb of
God who takes away the sins of the
world. Who marks with His blood on
the wood of the cross and on our
lips in the consecrated wine so
death passes over us and gives His
body on the cross and in the
consecrated bread of the Eucharist
to give us eternal life. From this
ritual meal we get the Mass we
celebrate daily to this day. It is
a wonderful and educational
experience to partake of this
special ritual meal with all of
the traditional foods following
the Passover ritual of retelling
the story of Passover with the
blessing and eating of the
symbolic foods. WHAT
IS TAIZE PRAYER??? The Taize
prayer is repetitive and
meditative songs sung at the
Ecumenical Monastery in Taize,
France. These are used
occasionally for special feasts
and celebrations.
We invite all in the Area
Faith Community to come. Because
the Seder Meal is a very special
ritual meal we need accurate
numbers of participants for
preparing the special food and
printing the ritual books for the
meal. Sign-up sheets are found in
the backs of the churches. Please
sign up by Sunday March 21 or call
the rectory in Tracy at 629-4075.
There will be a charge of $5 per
person for the meal. The Tracy
& Walnut Grove Confirmation
Students are expected to attend
and participate in the Passover
Seder Meal.

What
Is Catholic Stewardship?
The
mission and ministries of the
Church require the personal
participation in and financial
support of the Catholic people.
Stewardship is a way of life, and
not simply a program of church
support.
What is one thing it takes
for a Catholic parish to be a good
stewardship parish?
Communities known for the
vitality of their faith and for
the quality of their service to
people in need invariably inspire
others to participate in their
ministries and to be generous in
their financial support

Question
of the Week
Sometimes
we can see Christ with clear eyes
as the disciples did on that
mountain. 1. Tell about such a
time in your own life. 2. Tell
about a time when you felt God was
absent, silent, or angry.

WEEKLY
INSTRUCTION IN PREPARATION FOR THE
NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS:
Second Sunday of Lent
Our
readings today speak of listening.
Interspersed within the Mass are
times of silence, opportunities to
listen. These periods are
essential as the Word and the
Eucharist feed us. It may be
difficult at times to enter into
this silence. In the liturgy, as
in daily life, we need to allow
ourselves to rest and to be quiet
regardless of the distractions we
may encounter within us or around
us. Let us take advantage of the
quietness of the Lenten liturgy to
grow in our ability to listen.

What
Is Catholic Stewardship?
The
mission and ministries of the
Church require the personal
participation in and financial
support of the Catholic people.
Stewardship is a way of life, and
not simply a program of church
support.
What is one thing it takes
for a Catholic parish to be a good
stewardship parish?
Communities known for the
vitality of their faith and for
the quality of their service to
people in need invariably inspire
others to participate in their
ministries and to be generous in
their financial support

Question
of the Week:
Sometimes
we can see Christ with clear eyes
as the disciples did on that
mountain. 1. Tell about such a
time in your own life. 2. Tell
about a time when you felt God was
absent, silent,
or angry.

PLEASE CONSIDER: We are still in need of a CCW Vice-President. This consists of six meetings a year and then moving up to President next year. It helps to be there as Vice-President so one knows what is gong on as President. If you have any questions, please call Jan LaVoy 62
