THIS IS CCW SUNDAY, We are thankful for all that the members do in our 3 parishes over the years to help our own parishes, parishioners, people of our country and around the world with CCW’s various projects. The world would be a very different place if it weren’t for all the good that is done locally, nationally and abroad. If you want to make change in the world, I encourage you to be involved in the CCW. You will find yourself enriched and know your time and talents are doing God’s work of changing lives for the better by prayer, social action and respect for the lives of all people. Let us give 3 cheers to all those involved in our parishes for all they do and especially give thanks to our chair people and commission people for sharing their time and talents with and for us. – Fr. Bob Mraz, Region 3 CCW Moderator.

In the psalm today we hear, “Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands: break into song; sing praise.” Song has always been an integral part of the Mass. Singing helps us to remember. This is one reason why nursery rhymes are so popular in teaching things to children. When the revised texts of the Roman Missal are implemented, chanting parts of the Mass will be emphasized. In addition, there will be a need for parishes to learn new sung Mass settings (Gloria, Holy, etc…) that contain the new texts. The revised texts will help us in a deeper way to offer our prayers to God and to “sing to the Lord a new song”. To see what changes will take place in the texts of the Mass, go to www.usccb.org/romanmissal

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA MEN’S CHORUS PRACTICE, Sun. Oct. 10 & 17 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul’s Hall.
Good People of St. Michael Next week Sunday at the 10:30am Mass at St. Mary’s our young people will experience a once-in-a-lifetime moment with their bishop. They have chosen names ~ either their baptismal name or a new name. They have written a letter to Bishop LeVoir explaining why they are requesting the sacrament of Confirmation. They will rehearse and practice this coming Wednesday for this important event in their life and in the life of our area churches. They have contributed hours of service to their local community and parish. They have learned and been on two retreats. Now will be the time for them to be open to the pouring out of the Holy Spirit who will abundantly shower them with spiritual gifts—gifts and fruits of the Spirit that matter: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, right judgment, courage, reverence, wonder and awe; and the fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, generosity, faithfulness, modesty, chastity, self-control. Now, as St. Paul, states, there is no law against these things.
Parish Catechist Needed for 3rd—4th Grade Religion The US Bishops write: “ The call to the ministry of catechist is a vocation, an interior call, the voice of the Holy Spirit. Catechists need to be practicing Catholics who participate fully in the communal worship and life of the Church and who have been prepared for their apostolate by appropriate catechetical teaching. “ Do you feel called to be a catechist this year? Please contact Rich Hamsa, 336-2505, if interested.
Gummi Bears Fundraiser after the Oct. 17th Mass donations will go to the Habitat for Humanity. Denise Delaney
Special Confirmation Choir Confirmation will be on Sunday, Oct. 17th. Would you like to add your voice to a special choir to sing for this special occasion? There is one more rehearsal on Thursday, 7:00pm, Oct 14, at St. Mary’s School music room so that we can learn the music.
Catholic Stewardship is Putting Our Faith into Action ~ Talent, the Gift of Our Ability It doesn’t matter how rich or how poor we are, how smart, educated, or famous we might be — each of us has been given at least one gift that we can use on behalf of the rest of humanity. For every skill you possess, there is a need somewhere in your family, your parish, your town. Our abilities should be recognized, cherished — and shared. Henry Van Dyke puts it well when he says, “Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” If you aren’t sure where your talents lie, prayerfully contemplate the corporal and spiritual works of mercy (like “teaching the ignorant” we still need a 3rd—4th grade catechist). Somewhere in them you are sure to find something that makes you say, “Yes, I can do that!” Begin there, and soon other opportunities to use your talents will make themselves apparent. Corporal Works of Mercy: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, bury the dead. Spiritual Works of Mercy: counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear wrongs patiently, pray for the living and the dead.
Question of the Week Showing gratitude toward God is an ancient practice of faithful people. How do you do it? For what are you most grateful?
